Lowman District Boise National Forest  and National Interagency Fire Center closes trails due to lightning caused fires.

The Castro Fire continues to burn at a pace of about 300 acres per day, creating a vegetative diverse area. It is now a site where a fire in a drought year  would likely change its behavior due to the reduced fuels. It is meeting Boise Forest Plan objectives within the Red Mountain Roadless Area, which designated lightning caused fire fulfill a role in this fire adapted ecosystem.

Current trail closures in the fire area for all users include:

  • Forest Trail 147 (Warm Springs Creek Trail)
  • Forest Trail 148 (Links Trail)
  • Forest Trail 144 (Kirkham Ridge Trail) from the intersection of Forest Trail 142 (Catpaw Lake Trail) traveling northeasterly about 7.4 miles to the intersection of Forest Trail 16 (Gates Creek Trail)
