NAVIGATION & COMMUNICATION
Samsung Galaxy Tab A8
Tablet technology changes all the time. What you want in a tablet used for Navigation is expandable memory, GPS capabilities and a compass. Just because the tablet has GPS capabilities doesn’t mean it has a compass. You can still use it just with GPS but you won’t as easily be able to tell which direction you are traveling on the map while stationary. Both of these tablets have GPS and a compass. Please research carefully. Typically, Costco has the best deal but do your research.
Don’t forget to get a case that will protect your tablet out on the trail.
The Tab A S7 lite 2021 version is smaller with a 8.7 inch screen vs the 10.1 screen but works very well. Just get a case that works for you keeping in mind none of these tablets are waterproof.
NOTE: you should pick up a large 100 to 200 GB SD card for the large data files (maps) that you’ll need to download as the internal memory is not nearly large enough.

Spending the extra money for this model is really worth it as the larger touch screen and the ability to type on it are incredibly helpful.

You will need a pair of dividers to do the map work in the Idaho / Oregon map books.
